My Books
What You Lose on the Roundabout
...you gain on the swings

What You Lose on the Roundabout is a true story about my experience with Parkinson's disease, the pills I was prescribed to treat it, and the pandemonium that resulted in my husband and my lives. The book was written over the course of several years. I was finally convinced to finish it by my content editor, Jim Heller to whom I am so grateful.
I hope the book will serve to help bring public awareness to the intertwined relationship of physical diagnosis, prescribed medicatiions and mental illness. Readers will also learn of my passion to promote knowledge of stem cell research.

Advance Praise

What you Lose on the Roundabout has the charm of Bridget Jones, the quirkiness and humor of Little Miss Sunshine and the drama of a Robin Cook medical mystery.”

Jennifer Donelan, reporter/anchor WJLA-TV, Washington, DC

“Christina Weaver paints a deeply honest, often witty, and sometimes painful look at a life that has been struck by Parkinson’s disease. Her story is a rollercoaster of human emotion and contemplation about one’s place in life.”

Don Rush, News Director, Public Radio Delmarva

“What you Lose on the Roundabout is a remarkable accounting of courage, empathy and love.  It validates the depth of the human experience in its capacity to convert tragedy into an added value of life. Christina's true story is both enjoyable reading and a testimony to the challenge of modern medicine and those who are destined to serve. It will evoke laughter, anger and tears. You will want to share her story with friends, colleagues and loved ones".

Jeanne Craig Sinkford, D.D.S, Ph.D., author, Dean Emeritus, Howard University, Washington, DC

"A brutally honest memoir, a literary autopsy of the soul--eloquent and touching, at times disturbing--a story of frailty and redemption, of love and forgiveness--of what it is to be human, steeped in the human condition. I loved this book. So will you."

Harold Schmidt, playwright, author, director

“Totally authentic, I can picture it all. I like Ike. You will too. I want to shake his hand and say thank you.”

Frank Inglesia, a person with Parkinson’s

“A stunning illness memoir that rises well above the plethora of others because Weaver, with her photographer's eye, catches the small moments, the humorous moments, the painfully honest moments that are all too often eclipsed by the illness story itself. Most importantly, she never loses sight of the love story, complicated and controversial as it is, that underwrites every scene."

Maribeth Fischer, prize winning author, writers’ advocate

“What You Lose on the Roundabout is an inspiring page turner I had a hard time putting down. Healthcare workers will particularly appreciate this family’s challenges...”

Marguerite Cyr, RN, MSN, Clinical Specialist, Washington Hospital Center

“A weaver in more than name only, Christina Weaver creates a rich tapestry of moving experiences and observations invaluable to both mental health workers and laymen.”

Evelyn Epstein, MSW, LSCWC, President-elect Washington Society of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

“Christina Weaver shares her very interesting life in an honest and memorable way. After a lifetime of being trusting and trusted, and taking risks, she turned her normalcy upside down, lost the trust of her family, even her own, and then learned a new truth.  One for all book clubs.”

Joyce Stafford, retired teacher, book club member

“It’s my recommendation for a great read, perfect for a get-away weekend, especially at the beach.”

Ryan Deck, Lieutenant, Sea Colony Beach Patrol
