| Greetings,
Who am I?
I am a wife, a Mum of two and a Granny of four wonderful little granddaughters. More, I am a friend and advocate.
I am a writer and a photographer. I use my computer to create combinations of images and words. I call my computer my silent friend.
For ten years I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and I wrote... "So my soul is sad, damn it, at times, depressed... More than I should, I express what I would, It's healthy for me...Fear not, my spirit breathes passion, fiery like a dragon, to think, to love, to laugh, to write and to make a difference, And cough from my craw this crab of self-righteous self-pity...Unlike a shed shell."
Now it seems, I never had Parkinson's and, indeed, the medications I was prescribed caused some miserable symptoms of their own. Nevertheless, through the experience I have learned much, lost a lot and gained friends I would never have otherwise known. Loss and Gain....What You Lose on the Roundabout, You gain on the Swings...it is an old English saying and the title of my book detailing my experience with Parkinson's, pills and pandemonium!
I have devloped my own little creed which makes sense to me...Life is a one-act play, not an earthly rehearsal. I don't have or need a relationship with an all-knowing God. Instead I have a chorus of inner angels, ones without wings, who are the feedback loop between my external being and my conscience. My wingless angels are the memories of people whose guidance I have trusted and whose love I have felt. They are the tidbits of wisdom, humor and common sense that have been imparted to me over the years. Personal accountability is the basis for my value system.
So this is she and she is me: a woman who lives passionately, takes risks, loves words, and finds much beauty. Most of all, I am a woman thankful for a loving family and a multitude of friends. |
Before retiring early with Parkinson's, I was a nurse, a hospital administrator, a healthcare technology and managment consultant and a human resouces director. Now I write, take photos, walk on the beach, skim the bay on my pedal kayak, ride my three wheel bicycle all over town, and spend time with friends and family ---not a bad twist of fate...
And yes, my glasses are purple and my tattoo promoting stem cell research is indelible! |
